Our office also helped this new Internet affiliate apply for a full power frequency in Chewelah, WA, during a recent FCC filing widow for frequencies. It appears that they will be granted the permit and they have expressed deep appreciation for Pacifica’s help and deep excitement about being part of our network.

We are in the process of arranging Pacifica affiliation with:

WQVR-LP in Southbridge, Massachusetts and CKUT at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

HELPING WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT WORK FOR NETWORK STATIONS

The Affiliates office has made arrangements with Michael Moore’s office for making “Capitalism: A Love Story” DVDs available as a premium to Pacifica stations and Pacifica affiliates. 50 per station are free to each station and the rest of the DVDs are available at cost. As a result of the Michael Moore premium, several affiliate stations’ staff members have expressed interest in a network-wide shared premium program, using the size of our network to attract premium sources that stations cannot attract individually. We are moving forward with this initiative, drawing on network-wide resources and information about possible sources.

AUDIOPORT DIRECTORY

I am working on completing a directory to be put on line; of regularly syndicated programs in AudioPort, our primary distribution system available on line. The directory is approximately half way complete. Such a directory is a common request, especially with new affiliates.

IN CONCLUSION

Given the hard financial times everyone is going through, we are all experiencing cutbacks. In our office, it appears that support staff will not be possible, causing lost capacity to maintain some services, (including our weekly program “Sprouts Radio from the Grassroots”) and has potential for impacting our bottom line of contacts and our ability to attract as many new affiliates. Even in hard times, there are always opportunities and this office, as always is prepared to find them, remain committed to maintaining accurate contracts and records, and to look to move forward collaboratively in the best ways possible
