KPFA On-Air Candidates Forums

Candidate forums for this year's delegate elections are scheduled for 8 - 10 pm, on 8 October and 15 October. The forums will feature listener call-ins each hour.

(KPFA presented two more candidate forums in November, so each candidate had two opportunities to address the listeners.)  Here are audio recordings for each forum:

For those who can’t fill out the ballot form, but have means to read web pages and hand write their choices, the KPFA Election Supervisor is allowing hand written choices to be included in the return envelope WITH THE BALLOT, on which is the unique bar code for each individual that indicates a valid ballot. The Local Election Supervisor will then use the hand written note to fill out the ballot, observed by neutral witnesses.

Listener-member Virginia Browning, LES Janay Jenkins and Les Radke organized a reception and forum for the 2007 KPFA delegate candidates. Fourteen candidates attended; each delivered an opening statement, and then joined tables of listeners two or three at a time.  Here are audio recordings of the opening statements, and the discussions from one of the tables:

KPFA Completes Fall 2007 Fund Drive

[from interim GM Rijio]

Greetings KPFA and Pacifica Family,

The fall fund drive ended yesterday at 3:30 pm having raised $826,000, a little over our budgeted goal, in 16.5 days. We will continue to raise funds online and project an additional $10,000 to $15,000 in online pledges in the coming two weeks.

Special thanks to staff members who worked extra hard and long hours to make sure we succeed. The success of the drive was totally based on the

NES Peters Orders Return of Candidate Statements to Web

The Candidate Packet issued to all persons who expressed an interest in running for any of the five Local Station Boards contained a checklist of nomination requirements and copies of Fair Campaign Provisions with guidelines on candidate statements. The checklist reads, in part: In drafting your statement, you may begin with your name, include your experience, skills, and the main theme you want to emphasize in your opening paragraph, as this is all many voters may read.

Open Letter from iED Dan Siegel

October 24, 2007

Dear Friends,

Pacifica's local station board elections have taken a particularly nasty turn. A group of candidates running for the KPFA local board have issued statements that contain little more than personal attacks on their opponents and station staff. A candidate at WBAI engages in blatant race-baiting.
