I am registering to become a candidate as part of the 2007 Local Station Board Pacifica WBAI Elections. I would like to help participate in the decision making process for the WBAI local radio station board and give input and feedback as a listener. I am interested in serving on the local station board because I believe Pacifica and its affiliate radio stations are a great listener sponsored, community, non commercial radio who support free speech and broadcast the voice of the people and give power to the people. I would like to help encourage Pacifica and WBAI to reach a wider audience as well.
As a resident of the Lower East Side and East Village in New York City, I have been a listener of WBAI for over twenty years. I have also been a guest on several WBAI programs over the years for various causes such as housing and human rights and alternatives to psychiatry programs. I believe I have experience to contribute helpful feedback and input as an Local Station Board member and could contribute helpful information by joining local station board committees as well . I am a former secretary and member of a tenant association and I have been a board member of several housing rights organizations. I have administrative and organizing skills also, as I have helped to organize various community rallies and events for peace and justice.
It is my hopes to help in creating a more democratic local station board for WBAI and to help save the WBAI administration and board from itself, as Pacifica network stations have a history of turmoil and division amongst its members. I would like to help create a more democratic board with equal input for WBAI listeners and help to create more diverse programming and creative outlets for WBAI as well. I am a former squatter from 13th street on the Lower East Side and a visual artist who believes in religion, mysticism and all its meanings and the secret knowledge of the unknown and art as a universal means of communication.
I am currently a writer for a music magazine and I like to listen to live music and attend art openings and poetry events. I also maintain a blog at nopolicestate.blogspot.com and a myspace page at www.myspace.com/nopolicestategirl where you can listen to No Police State Girl's No Police State song. I sometimes perform with Unforgotten Voices, a visual and performing artists group of people who are otherwise living on the edge and I am a former member of Homelsess Clients Advisory Comittee and Support Coalition International, a Human Rights and Alternatives to Psychiatry organization.
I have also acted in various theater productions and I am a member of Oasis Garden in the East Village and like to garden and attend environmental events. I am interested in helping to save the world and whatever else comes to mind. Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind.
