Richard Uzzell Candidate Statement

Re-Elect Richard Uzzell

Making It Real… Compared to what?

As I watch our world get crueler and more bazaar, I look around to see where I might apply the little gravity I have. I believe KPFT, a priceless venue for truth and education, can and must become stronger and more effective. I am an enabler. I am a builder. I know the importance of shelter and a voice in a storm, and Folks….. We, are in a storm.

But if I become so paranoid that all of our words must look just like mine, then it’s not worth it. To me... and I think to you; the most important aspect of this venue of ours’ [KPFT] is not my personal tilt, but that this station prevails:

Rather than insisting that all programming be exactly as I think it should be; I have joined with our diverse family and worked hard to help create a functioning, democratic Program Council that has the potential to bring creative, quality, democratic and on-going change to our programming. A vehicle to plug-in the much hoped for diverse in-put.

Rather than insisting that management do everything exactly as I think they should; I have joined with our diverse family and worked hard to help create a positive working relationship that has strived to counter misunderstanding and poor performance with management and staff training, education and benchmarked goals for improvement.

Rather than watching our studio remain inaccessible to family members with disabilities; I have joined with our diverse family and worked hard to help insure access not just to the building, but to programming and employment.

Rather than wandering through a fog of disorganization; I have joined with our diverse family and worked hard to help as Board Secretary, Committee Chair and active member; to make planning and organization an ever growing part of our everyday produce. My vision is for a strong, diverse, independent and democratic alternative radio voice that will be there for our many, varied communities and for all of our future.

I’ve been serving the past year and a half, filling an open seat. In this election, I am asking for your vote to further the work we have begun. If you give me the honor of representing you, I will pledge that I will term limit myself after this up coming term.

I have been honored to serve you and our valuable station. Thank You. Re-Elect Richard Uzzell.
