Agustin Cebeda Candidate Statement

Lately here at KPFK there has been a growing controversy over who will run the radio station. One faction says that the radio station has to be run " professionally" which is a cover for the return to the Mark Chub Era. The other, Loosely coalescing around the concept of egalitarian Free Speech Diversity and Open Ended type of Programmatic Outlook. The First Faction in Has a Specific Agenda and has to this point in been well organized and has taken advantage of the other faction's lack of tight organization and program. Therefore they're plan to get rid of the current General Manager and bring in a General Manager of their liking so that they can have their way in once again controlling the programming that Is coming out of KPFK.

So far they have been successful in the first Part of their strategy. This strategy has to be viewed in the context of the current political situation in the country and at this radio station. The election of and continuation of the current national policy of intervention in Iraq Is of up most importance to this strategy. Therefore these elements prefer the candidacy of Hillary Rodham Clinton who will continue the occupation of Iraq.

There are 3 main tactics involved in this plan. No. 1 Is the sabotaging and taking over of the financial aspect of the station by stating that certain people/programs bring in most of the money into the radio station during the fund drives. The Underlying assumption being that therefore they should have the say in who runs the station. The other tactic is to use what’s going on nationally, that is to attack the weakest link which is to them the Spanish Language Programming and those associated with it. This mirrors what is going on with the attacks against the undocumented "illegal aliens"/Mexicans Latinos Hispanics. And the third as we have shown they have already succeeded in.

My candidacy will be to bring these issues to the fore and to have a dialogue about these very important issues which affect the future of the Pacifica national broadcasting system. Our program La Causa has been at the forefront of this struggle. We have dealt with all the interrelationships that are currently ongoing nationally and locally and there historical interconnections to the current international situation that is the invasion and genocide against the Iraqi people.

We have shown on La Causa that as half of Mexico (Aztlan) was stolen in a war of aggression by the United States would set the pattern for the United States actions since the Mexican- American war. We need to learn from this historical experience to be able to combat these right-wing forces on the national and local level.

Therefore I'm asking for your support in this LSB election for the position of staff representative.
