David Salerno Candidate Statement

As a first time candidate for the LSB at KPFT, I would like to offer my vast experience in political activism and support I've had in mega-events like the White Party which is a major fundraiser for HIV, and the Winter Party, also a major fundraiser for the GLBT community of Miami-Dade and South Florida. Both of these organizations have brought in donations in amount of tens of millions of dollars as well as millions more in tourism dollars. These organizations that have benefited from these mega-events do not serve exclusively the GLBT community, but rather the whole community at large.

I believe we have to think differently in our approach as to how Pacifica can best serve the entire community both locally AND on a national level. This would require cooperation on both national and local levels and a possible agreement contract with Pride Houston and their committees as well as the city of Houston.

Another example of what this would bring to those involved in such an endeavor, would be the city of Montreal, Quebec which hosts the annual Black and Blue Ball the second week in October. The main event alone attracts 87,000 participants at the Olympic Stadium, draws in $64,000,000 in tourism with all events combined. Not bad for a city one third the size of Houston.

Again all this would require the cooperation and input from multiple sources, promoters, clubs, and businesses and it would serve to benefit all those who took part in such activities. This could catapult the Pacifica name out in a way that would be known to a far larger audience than ever before as well as solve many fundraising issues.

I will always be open to any suggestions as I believe everything in life requires compromise as there are no absolute answers to any direction we take.

Thank for your support!
David Salerno

WBAI is bankrupt. These elections should be cancelled and redone due to the censorship of the candidates that is taking place.
