KPFK Staff Candidates

Below are the Staff Candidates for the KPFK Local Station Board.

Eben Ray Candidate Statement

My name is Eben Rey and I am running for one of the treasured spots on the Local Station Board for unpaid staff. I have been a part of the KPFK community for over 7 years and have served the mission of KPFK in various capacities. I have been a board op for morning drive time, part of the production staff, served as staff rep on previous station boards, assisted on special projects and remotes and I volunteer as a programmer for Something's Happening with Roy of Hollywood. This work has provided me with a great breath of understanding of the precious gem that is KPFK and why we must continue to strengthen its presence in Southern California and connection to you, our listeners.

Raymundo Reynoso Candidate Statement

Writer/Journalist with over 25 years of experience in printed and electronic media.

I wish for KPFK to become a stronger and committed institution that promotes the values of our diverse communities.

Jonathan Alexander Candidate Statement

I’ve been a KPFK listener since 2001. I started volunteering at KPFK, working at various events, answering phones for call in shows, etc. I was drawn to KPFK because I immediately realized how important it was as a source of information. We provide information that you are not going to find anywhere in mainstream media. I felt this was the best way to help aid in peace and justice, by working within KPFK and Pacifica to fulfill their mission. While I didn’t have money to donate, I did have time to help so I decided to volunteer.

Douglas Barnett Candidate Statement

Pacifica/KPFK is a unique experiment in nonprofit corporate control of a major educational public asset.

Don Bustany Candidate Statement

Having had the privilege of producing and hosting the weekly show, "Middle East in Focus," for eleven years on KPFK without hassle, it seems appropriate, and maybe overdue, that I contribute to our governance and policy-making processes. Therefore, I now become a candidate for the LSB.

Agustin Cebeda Candidate Statement

Lately here at KPFK there has been a growing controversy over who will run the radio station. One faction says that the radio station has to be run " professionally" which is a cover for the return to the Mark Chub Era. The other, Loosely coalescing around the concept of egalitarian Free Speech Diversity and Open Ended type of Programmatic Outlook. The First Faction in Has a Specific Agenda and has to this point in been well organized and has taken advantage of the other faction's lack of tight organization and program. Therefore they're plan to get rid of the current General Manager and bring in a General Manager of their liking so that they can have their way in once again controlling the programming that Is coming out of KPFK.

Shawn Casey O'Brien Candidate Statement

My name is Shawn Casey O'Brien.

For the last 7 years I've been a co-host/co-producer of KPFK's disability awareness show: Access Unlimited.

As Executive Director of the Unique People's Voting Project for 9 years, I was instrumental in getting over 100,000 disabled citizens registered and out to vote. And I continue to fight for the voting and civil rights of people with disabilities throughout California. In other words, I take my democracy very seriously and should I be elected to the Station's Local Board, I will work assiduously to increase the democratic participation of KPFK's subscribers and staff in their Local Board elections.

Margaret Prescod Candidate Statement

As a volunteer, I host and produce “Sojourner Truth” which airs Tuesdays, 7-8 am. I have brought to KPFK decades of grassroots anti-racist, community-based local, national and international campaigning for women’s rights and against war and poverty. Those of you who know me, or my work know that I am hardworking, principled and aim to be fair.

Steve Pride Candidate Statement

As a gay man, a person over 50 years old, and a stroke survivor living each day with physical challenges; Steve Pride understands that there are few community treasures greater than KPFK - a radio station that each day gives voice to the marginalized and disenfranchised among us.
