KPFA Staff Candidates

Below are the Staff Candidates for the KPFA Local Station Board.

Brian Edwards-Tiekert Candidate Statement

My name is Brian Edwards-Tiekert.

I cover environmental justice issues for the News Department, and I'm running for re-election for the Local Station Board because I want to help KPFA grow—and to do that, we need a healthy Local Station Board.

Mary Tilson Candidate Statement

My name is Mary Tilson. I'm a member of KPFA's music department and produce "America's Back 40" an American roots program heard on Sunday's at 1pm. I've been associated with KPFA as a broadcaster since 1981. I also was employed by the Pacifica Foundation from 1987-1999 where I provided a wide variety of administrative and fundraising services to the network. I have worked in a variety of alternative commercial radio settings ( WUPY, KFAT) and community and public radio stations ( WNMU, KALW) in addition to KPFA.

Sharam Aghamir Candidate Statement

Dear co-workers,
I am asking you to support my candidacy for the upcoming Local Station Board (LSB).

As a long-time activist, as well as co-producer for Voices of the Middle East and North Africa for the past five years, I have had the opportunity to develop an extensive network of working relationships with many important and diverse organizations across the Bay Area, the U.S. and the Middle East.

Mary Berg Candidate Statement

I have been a member of the unpaid staff since around 1980, and one of the extremely few who has continued throughout that time to work attentively and extensively on many levels with both staff (whether paid or unpaid) and listeners. This has given me a profound respect for the absolute necessity of using the democratic process in working to solve the lingering problems of KPFA. I have developed a profound knowledge of those problems as they are defined by all the varying individuals and groups involved—both the range of those attempting to bring various changes, and the range of those essentially resisting change.

Chris Brown Candidate Statement

My name is Chris Brown and I am running as a candidate for the staff LSB position. Currently I am in the third phase of the 1st Voice Apprenticeship Program Group 31 titled, “VOICES OF REVOLUTION.” In addition, I produce and host a weekly podcast titled, Crossing The Line: Life in Occupied Palestine. I have been an active listener of KPFA for over ten years. The dedication and passion of the programmers, paid staff , staff volunteers, and listener volunteers, re-affirmed my belief that independent media is more vital than ever in this world of corporate sponsored mainstream media that poses as journalism.

Jeannine Etter Candidate Statement

To the concerned co-workers of KPFA:
My reasons for running for the Local Station Board are varied, however, I would like start by seeing that the Hip Hop generation and its perspective be included in the decision-making process. I am also female, African-American and a native of the Bay Area, which gives me another list of communities that I would like to see fully represented at KPFA. I am a writer, editor, producer and Apprenticeship graduate. I am a member of UPSO. I have been involved in grassroots, community organizing within the Bay Area for the last 10 years. I can say that I have been present to see the many challenges and struggles of KPFA. I have seen many changes and many transformations and we are still here, listener-sponsored and community-represented since 1949...and in 2007 the struggle continues, equally inside and outside of these walls.
