Welcome to the official website of the Pacifica Foundation Local Station Board Elections

Donna Warren Candidate Statement

In full recognition of the long and painful struggle to restore the democratic principles of the Pacifica Mission, I stand for election to the Local Station Board. We have an opportunity after years of slipping into corporate malaise to restore Pacifica to its original intent – a station of tremendous promise -- giving media empowerment to the disempowered, helping the growth of grassroots movements and ensuring the voice of the voiceless is heard.

I come to this election well qualified. In November 2006, I was the Green Party candidate for California’s Lt. Governor. I am a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) with 25 years of experience, including 20 years as an auditor with the Department of Defense and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). I am currently president-elect for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) and the project coordinator for FACTS – Families to Amend California’s Three Strikes (law). In 2004, I served as the field coordinator for the ballot initiative Proposition 66 to amend California’s horrendous Three Strikes Law to violent felonies.

I started my grassroots activism in 1992 with Mothers ROC (Mothers Reclaiming Our Children) and "the Free the LA 4+ Defense Committee". Since then, I have served on The Geronimo Pratt Defense Committee, The LA Unemployed Council, The Crack the CIA Coalition, Families to Amend California's Three Strikes (FACTS), The South Central Coalition, and the council of the Green Party of Los Angeles County where I serve as the treasurer.

I embrace progressive values and will help to bring environmental, social, and political equity to all Californians. I believe in reparations for African-Americans, a revision of America’s abhorrent legal laws which disproportionately imprison people of color, and equality to all people regardless of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin.

In this era of “dumb and dumber”, we must work to ensure our programming reflects diversity and change. We must promote KPFK as a nonsectarian community right and service for all, rather than a privilege and/or media access point for the few. We must advocate programs flush with the Pacifica mission, designed to promote equality, equal access and multimedia literacy.

While the anti-war movement has bravely tested American resolve to protest the war in Iraq, it still fails to recognize American resolve against its own people on whom war has been waged since the first slave was put on a Jamestown auction block. And while African- Americans have fought on the side of many social justice issues, ultimately helping the women’s movement and rights for gay and lesbians, African-Americans still linger at the bottom of the economic scale and at the end of the police baton. The abandonment of black New Orleans is a testament to this statement.

I believe the KPFK Board can help to cause change and convince all communities to stand for a fair, clean, honest world.

I deeply appreciate your consideration of my application to the Pacifica Board.
