Let’s improve KPFK so it can be an even more powerful positive force. How?

Rigorous compliance with labor laws and the Americans With Disabilities Act. This would go a long way to protect us from lawsuits.

Professional financial standards that are as transparent as the law allows. This will instill confidence and make fundraising easier.

Improve our signal quality and reach. Our message of strength through peace, justice and equality has the potential to reach millions more. That will generate greater contributions, which will keep the cycle of outreach expanding. All we need is the will and a Board that makes it a priority.

Improve programming. It should adhere to the Pacifica Mission Statement.

Upgrade to Digital broadcasting and expand into multimedia.

Outreach more and respond to Community needs. Reinstitute an Internship program.

Use more mediation and conflict resolution.

I have been working on the above and will continue. I served as Secretary in 2005, Chair in 2006, I’m a good organizer and get things DONE.

Producing a cable TV program (over 200 shows to date) covering issues including campus military recruitment, nuclear weapons, global warming, Israel/Palestine, Colombia, the Balkans, Nigeria, Haiti, Ethiopia, college tuition funding, civil liberties, non-violence, etc. View them at: www. 10 years (1984-1994) as Chair and unpaid coordinator of 13 chapters of Peace Action of Southern California (20,000 members)
Co-Founder and co-chair of the Peace Action Network of Southern California, 32 groups opposed to the first Gulf War including the local Unitarian Church, Peace Action, Presbyterian Synod, Pax Christi, New Jewish Agenda, UN Association, Islamic Center, Southern Calif. Federation of Scientists, etc.
Member: Lincoln Heights Preservation Association, Nuclear Free Asia Pacific Committee, Visual Artists Guild, etc.
My husband and I raised two fine sons. The youngest just graduated from UCLA.

Just as a body needs a brain but also a heart, I cherish our music, literature and arts as well as our political programming. My brother died at 26 from heroin addiction, so I think we should talk about substance abuse. We should stress solutions and news people can use, like how to get college funding, how to lobby elected officials, etc. As Los Angeles is the capital of the Pacific Rim and 13% Asian, we should cover Asian issues as well as Russian, Armenian, Persian, Latin American, African, etc. Diversity is our strength, Last year I recruited and helped to elect 3 highly qualified people of color to our board: Yosh Yamanaka, a judge, Gabrielle Woods, a lawyer, and Yolanda Anguiano, a recent college grad and activist. This year I am working with others to recruit candidates of diverse backgrounds.

I try to practice my principles and if re-elected I promise to be honest and do my best.
